How does terror about nursing home care affect the lives of older adults who are trying to make care decisions under austerity? 

Taking the phrase “nursing home specter” from Betty Friedan, my research focuses on stories in expected and unexpected places (including film, pamphlets, self-help books, statistical records, popular media, research reports, advertisements, political speeches and policy). I have discovered myriad ways that such texts create and mitigate the panic that accompanies old age, to the extent that they affect the political economy of late life.
